Centralized change management systems such as CVS or IBM's ClearCase(r) provide protection -- but ONLY once the version has been "checked in" to the network. If your computer crashes, you make a serious error or just need to reference a previous version BEFORE you've checked in your work, you're probably out of luck. Also, a centralized system usually involves company-wide rules and procedures for checking in your versions. But what happens when you haven't checked in for procedural reasons, but you urgently need to recover a previous version?
With TrackBack, you have your own personal change management system that works in the background on your own computer, completely transparently. It automatically monitors the specific directories and files you select, and creates backup versions according to your parameters. This allows you to quickly compare original source files with the ones that have been changed and backed up. Differences displayed in the comparison can be viewed individually and moved, or restored, to the source file.
